Counselling for: Anger

Anger is a natural emotion that can let us know when something feels unfair, when our boundaries have been crossed, or when we’re carrying more than we can manage. It can become a concern when it begins to shape how we respond to the people and situations in our lives.

You may notice that your anger builds quickly or seems to come out of nowhere. Small frustrations can feel overwhelming, and afterwards you may wonder why you reacted so strongly. Some people express anger openly through arguments or raised voices, while others turn it inward, becoming highly self-critical or holding onto resentment. Anger is often connected to other emotions. Hurt, fear, disappointment, or shame may be sitting beneath the surface making it difficult to understand what is really happening.

Over time, anger can affect your relationships, work, and sense of self. You may find yourself caught in repeated conflicts, withdrawing from others, or feeling guilty after reacting in ways that don’t align with your values.

Using acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), we’ll work together to better understand your relationship with anger and what may be driving it. You’ll learn practical skills to recognize emotional triggers, respond to difficult thoughts and feelings with greater awareness, and regulate intense emotions without acting impulsively. Rather than trying to get rid of anger, the goal is to help you respond in ways that reflect your values and strengthen your relationships, even when anger is present.
