About
My Background
Welcome! I’m Caitlin Springate, and I’m glad you’re here.
I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and a Master of Science in Genetic Counselling.
Clients often describe me as warm, collaborative, and flexible. My goal is to create a space where you are comfortable showing up exactly as you are. I strive to create an environment where you feel supported and understood, while also being gently challenged in ways that foster meaningful growth. You can learn more about my approach to therapy here.
Before becoming a psychotherapist, I spent ten years as a genetic counsellor, supporting individuals and families through life-changing diagnoses and complex medical decisions. During that time, I was continually inspired by people’s capacity for growth, even in the face of profound uncertainty. Over time, I became increasingly interested in helping people not only navigate immediate challenges, but also better understand themselves and create meaningful, lasting change. Becoming a psychotherapist felt like a natural next step.
One of the lessons I took from genetic counselling is that knowledge is empowering, and I believe this applies to mental health as well. Greater self-understanding creates the opportunity for change. When we better understand our emotions, patterns, relationships, and ways of coping, we’re often able to respond with improved clarity and self-compassion.
More About Me
Originally from Toronto, I now call Vancouver home and have fully embraced the West Coast lifestyle. When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me hiking the North Shore mountains with my seven-year-old dog, Mango, or spending time at the beach with my family. Living on the West Coast has strengthened my appreciation for slowing down and spending time outdoors.
As a parent of three children and partner to someone with a demanding career, I appreciate how challenging it can be to balance work, family, relationships, and personal wellbeing. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the competing demands many people navigate every day and the importance of caring for ourselves with the same compassion we often extend to others.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about whether we’d be a good fit, I’d be happy to connect. Feel free to reach out or book a complimentary 15-minute consultation.
